Description

Description
An adult’s beaded buckskin jacket with leather tie front closing; appears to be Stoney beadwork; all beadwork done in the lazy stitch. Blue, green, and ochre beads, stitched in rows on breast front, beading of and blue and ochre on the shoulders and around the armholes, a rounded chevron-shaped design (five rows) of alternating dark and light blue beads on the back ending with two light blue, dark blue and ochre, tails. The beadwork from the bottom rounded chevron-shaped pattern extends to the shoulders and down the arms meeting with two separate rows (of two) of blue and ochre beads. The cuffs and bottom of the jacket have cutouts on wide fringes and also have the regular narrow fringes. There are fringes around the armholes, down the sleeves and around the v-shaped beadwork design on the back. The jacket has no collar but has a strip of pinked thin leather sewn down, ending in a cutout beaded flap (13.0cm long) which is sewn on so that it hangs down like a small necktie when the jacket is closed. The jacket has ochre spots on the front and back and yellow spots on the sleeves. Measurement 148.0cm, across chest.
