- A crudely carved figure of a woman (Madonna) and child on a base carved out of one piece of hardwood. The woman’s head is about one-third the size of her body. She has hair to her chin and has closed eyes and mouth. Her left arm/hand is placed on the front of the child who is carved out of the front of her body, his head just under her breasts. He is about two-thirds the size of the woman’s body, has closed eyes and mouth, and has his right arm in front of his body, under his mother’s hand. The woman appears to be wearing a two-piece long garment; the child has carved legs and his feet are resting on the base. The piece is signed on the bottom of the base by the maker carving out “H. Poirion”.
