- Totally bamboo, almost square-topped stool with four bamboo corner legs. Double bamboo frame near base and triple bamboo frame at top are cut out to shape and stretch around corner legs. Each stalk which stretches as above is a single bamboo stalk having two ends which are pegged together. Pegging through legs supports stretch frame. Vertical pegs through top three frames extend into holes drilled in seat top, which is a varnished, darker bamboo. Seat top secured with pegs and glue but glue and bamboo have dried with climate and one of four seat top edges is loose.

- Two light weight wood stacking chests with two drawers each. Chests are fastened together by a rectangular metal latch (23 x 8) on each side which slides up to hook onto two metal prongs placed at the bottom of the chest above. Each corner is reinforced by a metal covering. Oval shaped brown metal plates (12.5 cm. long with straight length-wise sides) decorate the bottom front of each chest. Each drawer has a lock placed in the center of a 10.5 cm. brown metal disc with silver metal rim and center. Discs extend over upper top edge of drawers by about 3 cm., two shiny brown metal handles on each drawer. Each of the handles is fastened to inside of drawer by a wing-type (or butterfly) fastener rather than screws.

- A large, oblong, wooden tray carved from a single piece of wood, fine grain elm, with carved picture of gnarled, Japanese tree at centre. Tray carved with slight, thick, lip rounding into bottom of tray. Large tree covers bottom of tray with spikes of grass at its base, and plum blossoms on its branches. Narrow zigzagged band frames picture with carved Japanese "Two Friends in Winter" signature in small chop square at bottom left corner below a faint inscription of Japanese characters. Printed design on front of a green weeping willow tree inside a fence. 2 squares, 5.0 x 4.5, one blue and one red are printed on upper half of design, purple border. Right edge is hinged, left side opens. (b) rectangular paper, 18. x 11.4. 2 sets of 6 different printed designs on upper left corner, paper folded lengthwise. Bound by a strip of patterned paper. "TOKEI" "HAIBARA"; this strip of paper is over another strip of red paper. (c) 2 sets of 6 rectangular envelopes, 9.3 x 12.2. Printed designs same as (b) on upper left corner, each set bound as (a) but without the red band.

- Japanese, finely decorated black lacquer writing case, for letter pads, sumi ink and brush, lift off lid, 4.5h. Inset picture in gold of an eagle perched on pine tree looking down into water. Inside of lid brown lacquer dragonfly above barley leaves. Tray, black with gold, pictures of traditional dress, ceremonial hat, 2 hats, shoe, musical instrument, hand drum. 8.0 deep, brown coloured. Pull out drawer 3.0 deep, for drawing pads. Brown gold lacquer has metal pull handle. Exterior sides decorated with gold cherry blossoms and petals, pine needles, maple leaves. All very fine craftsmanship. Original documentation stated contents as: 10 pieces of material, 5 purses, 1 small scroll picture, 12 postcards, 1 stationery box, envelope containing letter and 2 photographs of writer's children: Contents: 102.04.0395 a,b doily set, paper, 105.02.0124 a-j cards, calling 1/2; 105.02.0125 a-e prints, photographic,105.02.0126 a-g postcards, 105.02.0127 note, written, 105.02.0128 a,b card holders, 105.06.0048 stationery set, 107.01.0143 scroll, miniature.
