History / Biographical: The Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies is a trail riding organization based in Calgary, Alberta. The organization was established in 1923 with the support of the Canadian Pacific Railway. The first ride was held in 1924, and annual summer trail rides and pow-wows attracted fifteen hundred members by 1929. Many notable residents of the Bow Valley, including members of the Brewster and Moore families, Catherine Robb and Peter Whyte, and Carl Rungius have participated in trail rides. Support from the Canadian Pacific Railway ended in 1961. As of 2020, the Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies remains an active organization. History / Biographical: Edwin W. Mills, 1899-1979 was a resident of Hamilton, Ontario. He attended Ridley College and the Royal Military College, serving overseas from 1917 to 1919 in the Royal Flying Corps and the RAF. Mills was an active member of the Alpine Club of Canada from 1935-1953, attending the ACC Assiniboine Camp in 1935 as well as the first camps at the Columbia Icefields and the Bugaboos. Mills frequently hiked at Lake O'Hara, Emerald Lake, and Bow Lake. In 1937, Mills made several ascents on Ellesmere and Baffin Islands with the Canadian Arctic Foundation.

Scope & Content: Fonds consists of records relating to Edwin Mills activities with the Alpine Club of Canada, 1920-1946.; Moving images include 4 reels of 16mm films: Alpine camp, 1935; Grass (2 reels); and Everest. Physical Description: 2 photographs : b&w prints ; 20.5 x 25 cm and 18 x 12.5 cm

History / Biographical: Simon Fraser (1776-1862) was an explorer who was involved extensively with the fur trade in Western Canada during the early 19th century. Fraser began his career in 1793 as a clerk and in 1801 he became a trading partner with the Northwest Company. While working for the company, Fraser participated in expeditions throughout the Canadian Rockies to establish trade relationships with local Indigenous populations. In 1808, Fraser and 23 men completed a 36-day expedition following what was mistakenly believed to be the Columbia River, which ended at Musqueam. The river was later named "Fraser River" in his honour by David Thompson. Following the conflict leading up to the Seven Oaks Massacre, Fraser moved to St. Andrews West to live with family, where he met and married his wife Catherine. The couple had 9 children together. In 1838, Fraser fought in the Upper Canada Rebellion, resulting in a knee injury which left him permanently disabled. Fraser died at the age of 86 in 1862, and was buried in St. Andrews West with his wife who died the following day.

History / Biographical: Charles William "Bill" Stenton (September 24, 1914 - October 23, 1987) was born and raised in Banff. Bill later married Maria Anne Fernuik (September 10, 1915 - July 21, 2002), who in 1952 began collecting curios in the couple's home. The following year, Bill and Maria opened their first business in Banff, called BJ Novelty; the couple later opened another Banff business, BJ's Fabrics. Bill and Maria are both buried in the Banff Town Cemetery.

Scope & Content: File consists of 24 photographs printed onto postcard paper. Contents pertain to various members of the Woodworth family, as well as friends and Banff community members. Includes individual portraits, group photographs of the Banff Hospital staff, Banff Waterworks staff and friends in Bankhead, a local soccer team and multiple unnamed children [one identified as Bill Stenton]. Some photographs are annotated on the back with dates/names.

Notes: One postcard in file has stamp affixed, sent to Maud Woodworth.
