History / Biographical: Deborah (Debbie) Downing is the daughter of Henry and Elsie Wiebe, who owned the Alpine Motel in Banff. Henry ("Hank") and Elsie ("Honey") came to Banff in 1942 and raised Debbie and two siblings there (including younger brother David).

Scope & Content: File consists of 59 photographs pertaining to the Wiebe family and their business, the Alpine Motel in Banff. Photographs depict Henry and Elsie Wiebe with their three children; dam construction near Lake Minnewanka; the Wiebe children interacting with wildlife, and riding a gondola; and related subjects.

Notes: One image depicts 5 unidentified women outside of the Alpine Motel who were described by donor as students from Three Hills College (now Prairie College in Three Hills, AB), who worked as summer cleaners.

Eric Astley Soole (1918-2012) grew up in Banff and Calgary. He married Sylvia (Maberley) Soole (1924-2016) in 1942 or 1943. Eric served in the Royal Canadian Air Force
