Photographs depict studio and environmental portraits, parades, events at the Banff Springs Hotel, 1944 Stampede, and ceremonies. There is a triptych of Ludwig "Big Chief" Banjo purchased by Clifford White from the Western Music Supply Co. Subjects include Enos Hunter, Nat Hunter, George Kaquitts, Tom Kaquitts Jacob Twoyoungmen, Hector Crawler, Ernest Kehr and others. Photographs are taken by J.G. Noble, F. Gully, Ernest A. Kehr, C.P.R. Photo, and potentionally Byron Harmon.

Notes: Some of the photographs have typed or handwritten annotations, photographer copyright stamps, and copyright embossing and debossing of early 20th century prints. PA-83,84,85 and 90 and may show government officials from Tasmania including John Francis Gaha. PA-88 includes a copy negative. NA-01 has a copy print. History / Biographical: David Mowbray Soole (1885-1959) was postmaster at Bankhead until 1913 when he moved to Banff to establish a real estate and insurance business. He sold the business in 1919 and bought the Homestead Hotel in Banff which he operated until 1945. Eric and his wife, Violet, had two children: a daughter, Ivy (Bond), and a son, Eric A. Soole. Eric Astley Soole (1918-2012) grew up in Banff and Calgary. He married Sylvia (Maberley) Soole (1924-2016) in 1942 or 1943. Eric served in the Royal Canadian Air Force

History / Biographical: William D. Buck, 1859-1922, was born in England and is thought to have served during the First World War with the 103 Calgary Rifles. Buck was a Sergeant at the Banff and Castle Mountain internment camps, ca.1915-1917, and appears to have accompanied prisoners to a camp at Kapuskasing, Ontario after closure of the Castle Mountain camp in 1917.

Scope & Content: File pertains to a photograph album depicting snapshots of prisoners of war and surroundings taken by Seargent William D. Buck of the Banff, Castle Mountain, and Kapuskasing, ON, internment camps during World War I. Photograph album includes Banff and Kapuskasing River views; Castle and Banff internment camps views of prisoners, guards, facilities, activities, incidents and visit of Duke of Connaught and Princess Patricia; gathering of prisoners at Winnipeg and life at Kapuskasing internment camp; prisoners and Cave and Basin bathing, more Banff camp views and funeral photographs; family portraits, Banff and possible Calgary; and Sergeant Buck.
