- The Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies is a trail riding organization based in Calgary, Alberta. The organization was established in 1923 with the support of the Canadian Pacific Railway. The first ride was held in 1924, and annual summer trail rides and pow-wows attracted fifteen hundred members by 1929. Many notable residents of the Bow Valley, including members of the Brewster and Moore families, Catherine Robb and Peter Whyte, and Carl Rungius have participated in trail rides. Support from the Canadian Pacific Railway ended in 1961. As of 2020, the Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies remains an active organization. - Hans Gmoser played a major role in creating Canada’s vibrant mountain community. Although known internationally as the father of heli-skiing, he was much more than that: a talented rock climber, tireless expedition leader, a mountain guide, film maker and organizer. Deep Powder and Steep Rock presents an intimate portrait of this charismatic man. Much of the story is told in Gmoser’s own words, gleaned from his diaries, expedition journals, film commentaries and personal correspondence. It is a unique tale of adventure, hard work, perseverance and ultimate success.

Garden's book they were expected to appear), etc. Mostly kept in original 35mm slide pages, but some moved and kept in same order / positions on new slide sheets for labelling and conservation reasons.

- Jimmy Simpson Sr. was a backpacker and outfitter in the Banff / Rocky Mountains region. He built the Num-Ti-Jah Lodge near Bow Lake which him and his wife Williamina ran from 1920 - 1945, and led many hunting and climbing expeditions in the area. Jimmy and Williamina had three children: Jimmy Simpson Jr. (who took over the Lodge in 1945), and daughters Margaret and Mary Simpson who became famous as professional ice skaters, the 'Simpson Sisters' in the late 1930's.

- History / Biographical
- The Glacier House was originally built in 1886 to remove the burden of heavy dining cars by acting as one of multiple attractive pit stops for CPR passengers to take their meals. The building was expanded multiple times over the following 3 decades to accommodate a growing demand for overnight accommodation and increased railway traffic. Glacier House became less marketable by the 20's as dining service improved onboard trains, and the building closed in 1925. Plans were made for new extensions in 1926, but these were never realized.
- Scope & Content
- File consists of 3 printed posters and 2 pages with blueprints/illustrations. Content pertains to colour advertisements for the Canadian Pacific Railroad (one promoting a new route to Thunder Bay via Winnipeg on the CPR, one advertising 'The Red Letter Day' in 1986 as the CPR opened up a direct line from the Atlantic to Pacific coasts, and one reprint of a poster, date unknown, which originally promoted the CPR in the early 20th century). Also consists of a blueprint design for a proposed extension to the original Glacier House building in the Selkirks (dated 1926) and one print copy of a painted illustration depicting another proposed building design for the Glacier House, date unknown. The blueprint and illustration are possibly more recent copies of older items, and therefore a later date range of [ca. 1940 to ca. 1970] has been added to this file description.
