History / Biographical
"A Talk Without Words" was an original presentation by Nick and Ivy "Willie" Morant featuring some of their photographs taken while travelling across Canada for work, as well as photographs from their travels in Peru. The presentation involved a brief introduction by Nick and Willie, followed by an approximately one-hour long slideshow accompanied by music which was recorded by Nick. The couple presented this slideshow, and similar variations, to the public for about 15 years (ca. 1950 to ca. 1965).

Item S20/II/C/7/1 originally stored in brown paper Canadian Pacific mailing envelope with shipping label: "INTRODUCTION NICHOLAS MORANT BOX 1288 BANFF, ALBERTA CANADA" Items S20/II/C/7/2 to 4 were attached by string tied around them. Item S20/II/C/7/2 has label taped to inside of clear plastic container reading: "SHOWTAPE. Nova Scotia 123 Trees Prairies Quiet Places World at Feet Mountains 123 Exit Music." Item S20/II/C/7/3 and S20/II/C/7/4 were in brown paper Canadian Pacific envelope labelled: "SHOWTAPE B INTRODUCTION B Excludes - Peru - Soundpix" S20/II/C/7/3 in "Scotch Tape" brand box labelled "Introduction B .... File consists of 13 antique maps, 6 of which depict regions in India and 7 which depict regions in Germany. Content pertains to a small map collection originally issued to Tim Ffrench (?) during WWII which were later owned by Nicholas Morant. Some maps of reserves contain personal annotations and highlighted/coloured routes; none of German maps are annotated. File also contains set of 4 rag paper mounts, annotated. 3 naming artist Walter Wilcox (likely formerly held his works but are now blank). One labelled 'Model'.

Maps were originally stored together in one poster tube labelled: "MAPS OF GERMANY INDIA See notes inside" Shipping label: PLS HOLD Armand To Nicholas Morant 222 Melville Ave Westmount Montreal" (with two 3 - cent stamps attached) Note inside, written by Nicholas Morant: "These maps were among those issued to Capt. Tim Ffrench (?) preparatory to intelligence work done during W. War II" Signed "Nick M." Wilcox mounts were stored in brown paper packaging with several other blank mounts (disposed of). Labelled section of original paper packaging has been stored with mounts in oversize box for reference.

History / Biographical
Charlie Beil and Carl Rungius were both famous artists in the Banff area from the first half of the 20th century. Beil (1894-1976) moved to Banff in 1930 and was known for his paintings and bronze sculptures. He married Olive Luxton, the niece of Norman Luxton, in 1940. Rungius (1869-1959) was originally born in Germany and was famous for his landscape and wildlife paintings.

File consists of 40 b&w prints, mainly depicting professional portraits of individuals. Individuals in images include Charlie Beil, Carl Rungius, and several other unnamed artists and trades workers. File also contains images of staged scenes used in advertising by Canadian Pacific.
