History / Biographical: Ebenezer William (Bill) Peyto, 1868-1943, was a guide, outfitter, prospector and national park warden at Banff, Alberta, Canada. Peyto was prominent among the early trail guides of the Rockies, beginning a colourful career ca.1893. He led a number of mountaineers into climbing regions until ca.1910. Peyto served in both the Boer and First World Wars, worked a talc mine on the edge of Banff National Park and was a national park warden for over twenty years, retiring in 1937. Peyto Lake, Peyto Glacier, Peyto Peak and Trapper Peak were named in his honour.

Scope & Content: Fonds consists of papers pertaining to Peyto's Boer War service, photography and personal matters and photographs produced and collected by Peyto. Includes resolution of the American Alpine Club commending Peyto for his aid in the rescue of Margaret Stone on July 24, 1921 from Eon Mountain. Mrs. Stone was stranded after the accidental death of Dr. W. E. Stone on July 17, 1921. Photographs pertain to Bill Peyto, clients and trips in the Rocky Mountains; also Banff townsite views and events, wildlife and scenic views, ca.1900-ca.1940. Includes large framed portrait of Bill Peyto.

History / Biographical: Valborg (Valborerg) Rogstad (1895 - ?) was born in New York and lived in Rutherford, New Jersey until at least 1928. Her father Olaf was born in 1866 in Norway, and died before 1940 in the U.S. Her mother Amy (Amie) was born in 1867 in Sweden and was still alive in 1940 in the U.S. She had 6 siblings: Marie, Ebba, Frank, Amy, Harry and Arthur.

Scope & Content: Album consists of Valborg M. Rogstad Photograph Album. The album appears to be a Vernon Album from Kodak: loose-leaf style, genuine leather cover with alligator finish, dark brown in colour, “Photographs” stamped in gold on the cover, and brown tie rope that passes through 2 holes on the left edge to keep leaves secure. Album contains 74 pages, 24 of which would have been purchased separately in extra packs. 4 of the pages are not attached to the album itself. The 4 loose pages have been housed in separate mylar sleeves.
