- Charles S. Thompson, 1864-1921, was a mountaineer and General Agent for the Illinois Central Railroad in the United States. Thompson was active in Boston's Appalachian Mountain Club and participated in that organization's climbing camp in the Canadian Rockies in 1895. He accompanied parties to the summit of Mount Hector and Mount Stephen that year and was present on the attempt of Mount Lefroy which resulted in the death of friend Philip Stanley Abbot.
