Description
Ink and water colour sketch of a beach scene. In the foreground, a woman lies on her stomach reading, with her back to the viewer. She has dark skin and hair and wears an orange two-piece swimsuit. In the middleground and to the viewer’s right, two dogs play. The horizon line is punctuated by simply-rendered figures and umbrellas of orange, white and teal. There appears to be a wave or mountain on the far left horizon. The sky is coloured in a blue wash, which is more intense at the top, but thins out as it approaches the horizon line. The drawing is enclosed in a rectangular hand-drawn frame. In TL edge, there is an orange vertical mark, and a grey vertical mark.

Description
A paper with watercolour, ink and pencil drawings on both sides. Side 1: There are three drawings, one larger on, which occupies the left half of the page and two small drawings, vertically arranged in the right half of the page. The larger drawing on the left is of a caricature of a Japanese person. His eyes are severely slanted and head and facial hair is spiked. His body faces the viewer’s left, but his head is turned to look squarely at the viewer. His clothing is a long-sleeved smock and long skirt that show barely any skin. On the right side of the page, the top drawing is a First Nations village where three figures stand in foreground. The middle figure wears a Hudson’s Bay blanket coat. To the right of these figures, and in the background are three teepees and simplified figures. The lower drawing on the right side is of a seated First Nations woman in a red and brown shawl and yellow hood. He profile is visible. She carried a small child on her back and shoulders with a sling. Large black ink marks separate the left and right rides of this page.Verso: Drawing is oriented upside-down. Ink and pencil drawings of three seated figures in large kimonos. the central figure plays a stringed instrument. He, and the figure to his left are frontal, but the figure to his right is seated in profile. In the middle of these figures sits a box and a barrel with two sticks in it. Their dark hair, clothing, and facial features indicate that they are Japanese.
