In the top left corner the mountain peak is covered with snow. The foreground and the area between that and the mountain is solid trees of green, yellow and orange. Two eagles soar over the tops of the trees, one from the left and one from the right. The sky in the background has a bit of blue with several white and grey clouds.

The mid two-thirds depicts sparse trees, trail, and slopes to the left, waterfalls (Seven Veils), snow-covered mountain with glacier in the background (Mt. Oesa), mid-to-far right a mountain in varying shades of grey rising to almost the top of the painting (Opabin Mountain). Top portion blue sky with clouds. The extreme bottom and right hand side is left mostly unpainted.Signed, in script, blue watercolour paint bottom right hand corner “Middleton 78”. The lake bleeds into the signature.

- This painting was commisioned by the Peter Whyte Gallery to be included in the Art Bank purchase grant received by the Gallery during 1978. The reverse of the frame reads: (It is the mountain next to the Columbia Icefield, (Mt. Columbia) (Mt. Athabasca) which ever it is, that's the title. This painting is acrylic on gessoed masonite. It was begun in 1978 and completed in 1979. The surface can be easily damaged which explains the plexiglas. Any problems please contact the artist. signed: J.B. Spencer. Spencer's father became ill during the production of this work, thus the delay in completion.
