- Music is math. Music is business. Music is art. Few can leverage more than one side with any level of proficiency. Bow Valley musician Amelie Patterson is the kind of songwriter who knows her strengths and bridges the gaps of her own knowledge and skill to transform her own confident alt-folk songwriting into transfixing musical mechanica, with a little help from her friends. Upon completing a biology degree at the University of Victoria, Patterson slipped out of the merge lane and ended up diverting away from the scientific impulses and a family history of going into medicine. Turning her attention to music and songwriting, she pushed herself to a music residency at the Banff Centre where she met Will MacLellan (Raleigh) and the two decided to record a record together. That project became Roll Honey Roll, Patterson’s debut, co-produced by MacLellan and Brock Geiger (Raleigh, The Dudes). Roll honey Roll went on to win Alternative recording of the Year at teh 2017 YYCMA's. Though tempted by the prospect of a bigger musical market, Patterson doubled down on her community-oriented skillset and began recruiting other talented folks to her cause including Prophets of Music founders Kyle Tenove and Barry Mason, as well as Carson Gandt, into her live ensemble. This community mindset garnered Patterson the inaugural poet-laureateship of Banff, AB. Completing the Coaltion Music Artist Entrepreneurship Program further cemented Patterson’s interest in assembling a team around her songs, directing her collaborators instead of dictating or arranging, and letting them play to their strengths around her articulate musical aspirations. The result is the Playlist, a series of diverse rolling singles, coherently organized into volumes, each centred on a thematic throughline. Patterson plays with genre and mood througout, experimenting in writing and pushing herself and her collaborators to darken the corners of her moody alt-folk soundspace. The Playlist will be collapsible into 3 volumes, released song-by-song over a period of a few years, defined by, and reacting to, the social and musical moments to which each single breathes. Every bold and inward-facing musical singularity is readable in the lyrical and cultural moment it appears. Volume 1 will be released over the course of a year in concert with playful and unique merch items from independent Albertan artisans. The Playlist is at once present and omnipresent, a reactive and reflexive musical index of the development of an artist, her techniques, but most of all, her leadership. - Jean Alexandra Hembroff was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on April 5, 1908 to Walter B. Hembroff (d. 1945) and Sarah Jane Hembroff (d.1952). Jean was accepted to the MacPhail School of Music and Dramatic Art at the University of Minnesota, from which she graduated in 1927. She returned to Winnipeg to begin teaching courses in speech arts and drama. To establish herself, she first volunteered as the "story lady" at the Williams Avenue Public Library and quickly became known as an excellent speaker sought by many different organizations. She taught at St. Mary's Academy and the Evening Institute at the University of Manitoba, as well as offered private sessions. Many of her students used the skills they learned from Jean as they entered radio, television, politics, and business. Jean was also very active in organizing and adjucating Speech Arts festivals in Manitoba, often going to inaccessible places to give workshops. Her teaching, broadcasting, adjucating, coaching, and speaking career spanned more than 50 years. Jean was hired by the Canadian Pacific Railway's promotions manager to give presentations and broadcast interviews across Canada and the United States. In 1937, Jean joined the Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies and participated in their summer trail ride in the same year. For that year's issue of the Trail Rider's Bulletin Jean wrote an article - and became the first woman to ever do so. In 1938, during her lecture titled "Trail Riding in the Rockies" on January 18, 1938 at the Royal Alexandra Hotel, Jean met John David (Jack) MacDonald. Jack and Jean were married on June 18, 1938, and the couple had one son, Bruce Walter James MacDonald (August 28, 1946-August 25, 2016). Jean participated in several trail rides with the Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies and the Sky Line Trail, and produced articles reflecting her experiences. Jean loved to travel and visited places all around Canada and the United States, Borneo, Tangier, Montevideo, Stockholm, New Delhi, and Tonga. At the age of 102, Jean passed away on February 2, 2011 and is buried in Winnipeg.

Series III: Collected Materials and Ephemera, 3 cm, ca.1930-1950 (including a variety of collected poems and ephemera, as well as a copy of The Beaver Magazine from 1940, for which Jean wrote an article titled "On the Trail of Sir George").

Series I: Photograph Prints, 3 cm, ca.1928-1939 (includes personal photographs of Jean and her family and friends as well as photographs of Jean and Jack's visit to Lake Louise in 1939). Series II: Lantern Slides, 21.5 cm, ca.1937-1939 (Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies official ride of 1937 to Mt. Assiniboine; Sky Line Hikers of the Canadian Rockies official ride of 1939 to Ptarmigan Valley and Skoki; collection of trail ride songs).

- Richard Guy (1916-2020) and Louise (Thirian) Guy (1918-2010) met in England in 1937, and married in Nottingham on December 21, 1940. The couple had three children together: Mike, Peter and Elizabeth. Louise attended school in Leicester for domestic science, and began working as a teacher during World War II. Louise was involved in numerous charities and community organizations, and supported various disadvantaged groups including deaf students and individuals with leprosy. Louise and Richard moved to Canada in 1965, where Richard worked at the University of Calgary as a professor of mathematics. Richard also served as department head at the university starting in 1966. Richard and Louise were avid hikers and climbers, and the couple went on countless expeditions together in the Rockies over the following four decades. Richard and Louise joined the Alpine Club of Canada, attending about 30 camps each and completing hundreds of summits. In 2015, using a generous donation made by Richard in Louise's memory, the Alpine Club of Canada erected the Louise and Richard Guy Hut on the Wapta Icefield. Summary of "Young at Heart": Do you think that you are over the hill? You have retired and you feel there is not much more to look forward to. Well think again! This book about the inspirational lives of Richard and Louise Guy, will show you that there is a great deal of life beyond the set retirement age of 65 — and beyond 75 and beyond 85. Arriving in Canada in 1965, near the age of 50, Richard and Louise Guy taught all of us what it means to be enthusiastic, positive and to embrace life. They climbed mountains well into their nineties, and Richard still works today at the age of 96. Louise rode her bike to the corner store until she was 92. So stop your whining about your knees and hips! Life was never meant to be easy! But it can still be beautiful, long past the so-called age of youth and dreams. - This book tells the story of the White/Whyte family of Banff — pioneers Dave and Annie who created a successful mercantile business in Banff, their son Cliff who played a major role in creating the Mount Norquay ski resort and Skoki Lodge, his brother Peter and his wife Catharine who became two of the most famous artists of the Canadian Rockies, Clifford Jackson White and his wife Bev who created modern Sunshine Village Ski Resort, Jon Whyte the poet and historian and Cliffy, Brad and Tristan White who have had distinguished careers in the Warden Service and the tourist industry. This book tells the story of one of the most unique towns in Canada, through its ups and downs, and the colourful characters who have called Banff home.
