History / Biographical: The Lake O'Hara Trails Club was established 1948, dissolved in 1962 and reactivated in 1969 to create, improve and maintain a system of trails in the Lake O'Hara region of Yoho National Park, British Columbia. Later work involved providing information on the region to visitors, publishing maps and historical works, and continuing the efforts of founders, George K. K. Link and A. Carson Simpson.

Scope & Content: Fonds consists of club records.; Textual records include by-laws, 1979; minutes, 1949-1984; presidents' records, 1974-1983; financial records, membership records and dues receipts; newsletters, 1978-1994; clippings and articles, after 1946; Lake O'Hara region south area map elements and published versions; and correspondence between Dr. George K. K. Link, members and others, 1960-1978.; Photographs consist mainly of Lake O'Hara Trails Club slide library pertaining to landscape, flora and fauna of the region, also portraits of Dr. Link; ca.1950-1981; 625 items. Photographers / contributors to slide library include Lillian Gest, D. M. Hehir, Frank and Ruth Henderson, Jane Hopkinson, John Hutchinson, Richard Turnbull and others. Prints pertain to ascent of Mount Lefroy, 1925, 5 items.

History / Biographical: Aileen Harmon (1912 - 2015), daughter of Byron Harmon, worked as a government naturalist at Banff, Alberta, Canada and was involved in local natural history groups and activities. Aileen was a founding member, alongside Bruce Gordon, of the Bow Valley Naturalists, and was also on the Board of The Canadian Wildlife Federation and The Society of Alberta Naturalists. Aileen moved to Mill Bay on Vancouver Island, B.C. in 1981 following the end of a lengthy career with Parks Canada. During her retirement years, Aileen travelled extensively, reaching all seven continents. She also authored an autobiographical book, titled "Tales of My Mountain Life", in 2004. Aileen passed away on January 9, 2015 at the age of 102.

Scope & Content: Fonds consists of textual records and photographs by and about Aileen Harmon, as well as collected items. Textual records include: letter from Harmon to the Director of Alberta's provincial parks re addition of Yamnuska area to Bow Valley Provincial Park, 1973; brief, from Harvie Heights and Bow Valley subdivision residents to public hearings on land use and resource development in the eastern slopes, 1973; letter re James Hector, 1979; notes on career, 2003; notes on Catharine Whyte for CBC recording, 2004; Christmas cards and collected articles, ca.1960. Photographs, made by and collected by Aileen Harmon, pertain to Aileen Harmon and friends, skiing, Skoki area, Mount Yamnuska, Banff Indian Days. Includes photographs by Byron Harmon. Added content from accession 2016.8596 : ca. 25 cm of textual records including personal correspondence, guest book, original writing and notes by Aileen Harmon, personal travel journals from a 1931 packing trip and 1933 ski trip to Skoki, drafts of autobiographical book "Tales of My Mountain Life", articles pertaining to or written by Aileen Harmon, Christmas cards, and letters of condolence to Carole Harmon following Aileen's passing. History / Biographical: George K. K. (Tommy) Link, 1887-1979, was professor of Plant Pathology at the University of Chicago, Illinois. Link spent many summers between 1928 and 1977 studying the Lake O'Hara region and building trails there, accompanied by his wife, Adeline Link, d.1943. The Links were frequently guided by Jim Boyce.

Scope & Content: Fonds pertains to the Lake O'Hara region, particularly its history, geology, botany, trail systems and visitation.; I. Writing, research and translation, ca.1887-ca.1975, ca.45 cm, including some photographs. Consists of manuscript drafts, notes, correspondence, maps and print material pertaining to writing, editing and translation projects, including "The Ways of Lake O'Hara," and the "Map of Lake O'Hara Region South Area."; II. Personal papers, 1960-ca.1976, ca.7 cm, including some photographs. Includes correspondence, financial papers and other material.; III. Lake O'Hara Trails Club papers, 1949-1973, .5 cm.; IV. Photographs, 1937-ca.1960, ca.1000 colour transparencies and ca.25 prints. Transparencies pertain mainly to the Lake O'Hara / Lake McArthur regions; also Lake Louise, Skoki and Icefield Parkway areas and Grand Canyon, U.S.A. Includes views of landscapes, hiking, some horse travel, flora and fauna views. Some views are attributed to Adeline Link.
