- History / Biographical
- Kay Powell (nee Kathleen Burt-Smith) attended the private Mountain School in Banff, Alberta which was founded by Margaret and Henry Greenham in 1920. She was sent to the nearest private boarding school as a result of a fear of bombing in her home town of Victoria, BC by the Japanese during World War II. Kay Powell started half-way through her grade 9 year in 1940 and stayed until 1944. She won a school prize in 1943 for "friendliness" and returned to Victoria, B.C. after the war where she married James Michael Powell and had two children and three grandchildren. She was an avid boater and passed away in 2017.

Beil; 1 card with signatures; newspaper clipping pertaining to mountain school students skiing at Sunshine). Series II : Mountain Echoes, 1 cm, 1941-1943 (includes 2 school journals "Mountain Echoes," 1941-1942 and 1942-1943 pertaining to school events) V158 consists of two series, 2.9 cm, 1940-1942. Series I : Photograph albums, 2 cm, 1940-1942 (1 photograph album with 43 photographs pertaining to Kay Powell's time at the Mountain School, including textual records within of valedictory poem and lyrics to a school song "Forty Years On" on Havergal College letterhead. - The Longstaff family, which included (at the least) Beatrice, Katharine, Gilbert, Frederick, Tom and Margaret Longstaff, were tourists and mountaineers from Sussex, England. They first visited the Canadian Rocky and Selkirk Mountains in 1903. Major F. V. (Frederick) Longstaff, 1879-1961, returned to Canada in 1909 and settled in Victoria in 1911. He was a frequent visitor to the Rocky and Selkirk Mountains throughout his life. Dr. Tom George Longstaff, 1878-1964, a renowned world mountaineer, visited with his sister Katharine in 1910 to climb in the Mount Assiniboine area. Tom Longstaff and Rudolf Aemmer made the first ascent of the north-west face of Mount Assiniboine, and Wedgwood Peak, near Mount Assiniboine, was named for Katharine Longstaff Wedgwood. Tom Longstaff visited western Canada again in 1912. An account of his Canadian experiences was included in his book, "This My Voyage," published in 1950.

- Accompanied by "Another world: Being the musings of a lazy afternoon on the Rotunda, Banff," manuscript by Beatrice M. Longstaff Lance, 1903? Lance describes her impressions of the Rockies in general and the view at sunset from the Banff Springs Hotel. Also includes letter, 1969 November 13, from Katharine L. Wedgwood of Glasbwynr, Hereford, England, to Margaret C. Wylie of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Letter discusses the death of Nancy Lyall and includes recollections of trips to the Canadian Rockies.

- Margaret Elizabeth (Haskins) Greenham, 1881-1960, and Henry Warren Greenham, 1870-1953, were educators at Banff, Alberta, Canada. Margaret Haskins was born in England and was educated there and in Paris, France. She moved to Toronto, Ontario in 1908, teaching at Havergal Ladies College. She met English-born Henry Greenham in Banff; they married and taught at Pine Lake, Alberta before returning to Banff in 1919. From 1920 until 1947, the Greenhams operated a private school known as the Mountain School. They were leading organizers of cultural activities in Banff. Margaret Greenham was instrumental in the Banff Literary-Dramatic Society, the Merry-Go-Round Theatre for children and Banff Home Industries, a local crafts society.

- Sydney R. Vallance, 1891-1979, was a lawyer and mountaineer at Calgary and Banff, Alberta, Canada. Vallance began his law career in 1920, establishing a private practice in 1929. He joined the Alpine Club of Canada in 1932 and held executive positions at both the section and national levels, including a term as President from 1947 to 1950. He made over one hundred ascents during his climbing career. Vallance was also a member of the Skyline Trail Hikers of the Canadian Rockies and was an avid amateur photographer
