At the centre of the address book, laminated with scotch tape, is the wedding announcement for Dorothy and Tronson: "Draper-Whiteman- A wedding of wide interest to Calgary and Banff was solemnized with Dorothy Frances Whiteman, daughter of the late Rev. A. W. Whiteman of Calgary, became the bride of Mr. Tronson James Draper of Petrolia, Ont. The ceremony took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Ashworth, Toronto. Rev. James McNeill officiated."

History / Biographical
See fonds level description for biographical history. Reverend Arthur Wellesley Richard Whiteman was born in 1865 in Teeswater, ON. He graduated with a Bachelors Degree from Queen’s University and received his Bachelor of Divinity from his studies at the Belfast and Edinburgh Universities. He also attended Robertson College for a year in Edmonton. Rev. Whiteman began his career as a missionary in British Columbia. He worked in Presbyterian churches in Cardston, Cochrane, Calgary and Macleod. At Knox Church in Calgary he was financial secretary and assistant minister for nine years. He was active in the church union question, and organized congregation members at Knox Church and St. Andrew’s, Macleod who voted against union. He married Nina L. Whiteman (nee Grenny) in 1898, and their daughter Dorothy Whiteman was born in 1901. Rev. Whiteman died in 1926 in Macleod, AB.

Inside cover “AWR. Whiteman Belfast Ireland Dec. 25th 1889 J. Livingstone.” Bible is heavily annotated. Sections throughout the Bible are underlined or indicated in pencil, with occasional notes in the margins. Pages of handwritten text, presumably sermons, have been glued into the pages of the Bible and are loose throughout. Inserted pages are utilized on recto and verso in diminutive handwriting. Newspaper article regarding parasitic life in alcohol inserted near end of Bible. Several addresses written across the tops of the pages at the end of the volume. Three newspaper articles glued to back page. Pages with sermons and notes are loose at front and back of Bible, including a sheet of “The Chinese Mission” letterhead which indicates that Rev. A. W. R. Whiteman, B.A., B. D., was the Missionary Sec’y.
