Folded over, 2 pockets from front materials, lined with pale blue , 2 more pockets. (b) 23.0 x 23.0, fully lined, folded to form envelope. Inside purple "shot" silk with pocket gold stitching. Outside pale blue with embroidered flowers and bamboo leaves.1.5 long thread forms closure with .6 x .7 flat piece of ivory. Very finely made.

Description
Two simple, painted fans with large accordian pleats on wooden vanes. (a) 4.0x33.5x2.0, bamboo vanes, in narrow cardboard box . Long, natural bamboo vanes are carved through with three long ellipses at the top and hinged together at the bottom with a black pin. Fan opens to an arc 57.0 cm across and is painted with a tree in blossom, and flowers by a stream on both sides. Background on one side gold on other silver. Vanes, except for outer two, are sandwiched between paper forming two sides of fan. (b) 6.2x37.9x2.2, black bamboo vanes, five simple long strips of bamboo are hinged together at the bottom with a pin. Fan opens as (a) to an arc 41.0 cm across and is painted on front with design of overlapping large green and yellow leaves on brown stems. Back is printed with irregular design of small silver squares to which three vanes are glued directly. In a long fitted box with Japanese writing and chop marks.

A thin, slightly oval, cardboard hatbox with a cover. The cover has a Canada Post red, FRAGILE label sticker with black lettering “CANADA - PARCEL POST FRAGILE Handle WITH CARE”, partially covered by a navy blue and white address label “PERIODICALS - - RUSH HARRY’S NEWS AND TOBACCO SHOP”, underneath in smaller capital lettering “THE BOSTON HAT WORKS 109 8TH AVENUE WEST - CALGARY, ALBERTA TO”, in script written with a pen, “L.S. Crosby Banff Alta” underneath in label printing “POSTMASTER - IF NOT DELIVERED OR CALLED FOR IN 5 days, RETURN TO US. RETURN POSTAGE GUARANTEED” and two eight cent Canadian (cancelled with a “CALGARY POSTAGE” ) stamp. The outside of the box has a large, rust-coloured and yellow, hatter’s label (12.0x22.0cm) with a size chart and address. The word “STYLE” and underneath in pencil “5561” then the size chart “1/2 8/8 3/4 7/8 7 1/8 1/4 3/8 1/2 5/8 3/4”, the “COLOR” script in pencil “Birch” followed by “THE ADAM Five” and their logo, a gargoyle on top of a shield, part of which is the letters “A” and “H”, surrounded by scroll. Underneath that “CREATED BY AMERICA’S FAMOUS HATTER”. Below this in large black printing “Brown Narrow Band”. There is a cardboard hat form inside the box.
