Scope & Content
File pertains to 34 handwritten letters by Catharine Robb Whyte to her mother, Edith Morse Robb between February 1933 and April 1933. Topics include daily life in Banff, preparing for the season at Skoki, the Rankins sending a ski racing trophy, Peter attending a hockey game in Canmore, daily life in Concord [including honeymooning Russ and Kitty and where they will live in Concord and Boston], lists names of the Boston ski crowd, the death and aftermath [including funeral] of Kit Paley after an avalanche at Skoki, dealings with the lawyer Mr. Bing, returning to Skoki with more guests, Barbara Carpenter White's pregnancy and heading east with her mother [and possibly visiting Edith Morse Robb], and visits with locals and others [including Mr. and Mrs. Jack, Jimmy Boyce, Vic Kutschera, Cyril Paris, Norman Knight, Agnes Hammon, and Aileen Harmon].
Notes
Please note: language pertaining to Indigenous Peoples, people of colour, and those of the Jewish faith used throughout is outdated and offensive. Some items were stapled together and therefore scanned together as one document. Letters are all handwritten and include some hotel and camp letterheads. Some letters are marked with a small x in pencil, indicating where Jon Whyte made notes for use in his project "Catharine Robb Whyte, Peter Whyte: Commemorative Portfolio," originally published in 1981. Some letters also have numbers written in pencil crayon, believed to be from when originally processed.
