History of Alberta
Calgary
Abstract
Pertains to a collection of photographs and text pertaining to various buildings, homes and shops in Calgary, Alberta. While history can be explored through a multitude of lenses, author Trudy Soby decided to focus on the ways homes, apartments, buildings, and hotels contributed in creating a unique identity in Calgary, Alberta. The publication treasures the past, paying a particular homage to some of the first homes in the Calgary area. As our world continues to be revolutionized, economic motives drive industrial change, resulting in the destruction of many of the first homes in an effort to build new, and more modern housing options. The authors acknowledge such changes, and work to commemorate the homes of some of the first settlers and pioneers in the city before they are gone.

Abstract
"Writing the Terrain is the first anthology dedicated solely to the poetry of the Alberta landscape and cityscape, by authors who have travelled the main roads, back roads, and gravel roads of this vast province. This collection offers a series of poetic journeys through Calgary and Edmonton, through the Foothills, the Badlands, the Rockies, the Central Parklands, and the Northern Boreal forests. Following in the Canadian literary tradition of "preoccupation with place," these are poems that demonstrate a response to the landscape and ponder its effect on the body, mind, and spirit."--Jacket.
