Description
The light and dark turquoise of Bow Lake is placed in the middleground. At the base of the picture, the lake is described by a horizontal stroke of light grey and by a number of vertical brushstrokes of turquoise. The vegetation in front of the lake, in the lower left and right corners, contains the same dark green, and light violet-grey found in the background. The violet-grey is used to indicate: the snow covering the dark violet-grey mountain on the right; the rock forming the more distant peak on the left; and a lighter tint of this colour forms the clouds in the upper left corner. A separate area of blue-grey clouds occupies the upper right corner.

In the right foreground, a brown cabin (with a red-brown roof and an open front door) sits in a meadow surrounded by tall evergreens. To the left of the front of the cabin, a brown horse is tied to a wooden railing.

Description
This is a fall mountain and river scene. In the foreground, the grass around the river has turned yellow. The river exits at the bottom of the piece in a portion that spans from the LLC to the LRC. There are small islands covered with yellow grass in the river. Trees surround the river and grassy area creating a line as they visually connect when the river bends to the left. In the background, above the trees, is a mountain which takes up half of the piece. The right side of the mountain is in shadow. The sky is painted with a light blue wash, and is occupied with light clouds. Where the sky meets the mat at the top of the piece, a small piece of sky pokes through the clouds and is cropped by the mat.
