- History / Biographical
- Mary Thomson Allan, 1913-1989, was a poet and homemaker at Banff and Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Mary Thomson was born in Banff, where her mother, Jeannie Thomson, ran the Cave and Basin Teahouse. In the 1980s Allan was involved in the Save the Cave and Basin Committee. Allan wrote poetry starting in the 1930s. A number of her poems were published in periodicals and anthologies during the 1950s to 1970s, and a selection, titled "The Inward Trail", was published posthumously in 1992. "Banff Collections and Recollections" was in process when Allan died and editing was continued by her daughter, Jannis Hare.

- File pertains to 69 letters written by Catharine Robb Whyte to her mother, Edith Morse Robb from March 23 to August 29, 1942. Topics include day to day life, weather, Catharine's Home Nursing classes, cleaning and household chores, news pertaining to the war, updates on war-time rations [mostly on food items and gasoline/coal], visits from friends, Kay Baker-Carr and her kids moving to Banff in April [D'Arcy is stationed in Hong Kong], uncertainties surrounding Pete's volunteer status in the war effort, matters pertaining to the store and apartments on Banff Ave [including the construction of new apartments], a visit from the Governor General in late April, errand trips to Calgary [mostly to see the dentist], going to the movies, bike riding and hiking, radio programs [mostly operas and the news], wildlife, books Catharine and Edith are reading, events and people in Concord [including Russel's activities in the US Army], various holidays [both Canadian and American], Catharine's involvement with the Red Cross, slide making and presentations, Pete and Catharine participating in an art show at [possibly] the Mount Royal Hotel, Jean Caird coming to visit for July, sightseeing trips around Banff National Park [including the Lake Louise area, Temple, and Bow Lake], going to the Calgary Stampede, Banff Indian Days, participating in the annual Skyline Trail Hikers of the Canadian Rockies hike in the Sunshine area [late July], Pete becoming the acting Quartermaster [for the Airforce?] in early August, painting/sketching, and various other Banff community activities.

Records include: Book of Common Prayer (1872); The Pocket Cook Book by Elizabeth Woody (1942); Guide to Marks of Origin on British and Irish Silver Plate from mid-16th Century to the Year 1943 and Old Sheffield Plate Makers' Marks, 1743-1860 (1943); four booklets related to the Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies (1934-1950); a booklet titled "Sir George Simpson Centennial Celebration" (1928); an assortment of recipes; "The Margaret P. Hess Collection" booklet published by the University of Calgary (1977) and a related Calgary Herald newspaper clipping (1986); one Carl Rungius postcard; and six miscellaneous postcards depicting a former school teacher of Leette Wardle (1911), James Wardle at the Cave and Basin (1920), the Wardles in San Francisco (n.d.), two unidentified men (n.d.), and visitors to the Banff Springs Hotel (n.d.).
- Notes
- Book of Common Prayer inscribed with: “Martha Morey, November 4, 1872. New Westminster, BC. From her mother.” It belonged to James Wardle's mother.
- The Pocket Cook Book contains annotations and written notes tucked in among the pages of the book.
- Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies booklets kept because the Wardles participated in trail rides and there are photos/mentions of James and Dorothy, and possibly Leette.
- The "Sir George Simpson Centennial Celebration" booklet contains a photograph print between pages 32 and 33.
- Some of the postcards are annotated on the back, specifically the postcard depicting the Banff Springs Hotel which is addressed to Dorothy.

- Miss Grant Kimball, of 2200 Block 14 A St. S.W. Calgary, Alberta, worked for the government seed sorting and grading office, which may have had offices in the old Post Office Building, 8 Ave. & 1st St. S.E. Calgary. Kimball never married, she was Rosicrusian and occasionally travelled to group headquarters in California for annual picnics. Her father worked for CPR and she had one sister, June Kimball.
