The lodge catered to hikers and climbers and was managed for over thirty years by Sylvia "Syd" Graves. In 1954, the CPR sold the lodge to Claude Brewster and Austin H. Ford of Brewster-Ford Mountain Lodges. Ford assumed sole ownership in 1958 and sold the lodge in 1975. Since 1976, Lake O'Hara Lodge has been operated by the Laub family of Banff.
