Description
Navy blue fabric martingale and horse collar with beaded floral decoration. Each piece is edged with red fabric. a) “V” - shaped collar edged with feathers and thread fringe. Floral pattern in blue, white, orange and red is repeated on each arm of “V.” The collar is also decorated with sequins held in place with beads. Tag with CRW writing: “Rachel Wildman wife of Killian from Nordegg - will pick up next Mon - Oct 12 1972” and other writing “Plains Cree horse ornament.”b) Martingale with two long strips, with striped fabric ties at one end, joined by a rectable at the centre. Both strips have one forked end and are decorated with a flipped, repeated pattern of orange, blue and white flowers. The centre piece has a white flower centred at the bottom with two blue and green flowers above. The martingale is also decorated with sequins held in place with beads. A strip of green fabric is attached to one side.

A pair of soft moccasins shaped to the foot and sewn around the sole. Each moccasin has an ankle flap with leather thongs for tying. They are decorated with very simple three and four petalled flowers and leaves embroidered on the instep with pink, red and blue silk thread.

Pertains to the story of William Bleasdell Cameron, a European settler who was held captive during the Frog Lake Massacre of April, 1885. Cameron tells of the two months he was held captive, as well as his escape during the Battle of Frenchman’s Butte. Formerly titled, The War Trail of Big Bear, the title was changed to Blood Red the Sun in the 1940’s.
