Description
A black bowler hat that is low-crowned and close-fitting, the sides of the brim upturned. There is a grosgrain hatband with a bow, viewer’s right, and the brim is edged in black grosgrain as well. The sweatband is light brown with a silk ribbon bow at the top of the back seam and above that a white paper hat size sticker with black lettering “Qualy (sic) 429 Shape Size 6 3/4”. There is a teal blue seal stamp on the forehead part of the sweatband “JESS APPLEGATH”, a lion logo, MEN’S HATS ONLY” and a also midway, viewer’s left, a crown on top, “JESS APPLEGATH, a lion between two flags logo, and underneath “85. YONGE NEAR KING ST. TORONTO 473. ST. CATHERINE ST. WEST NEAR PEEL ST. MONTREAL , MEN’S HATS ONLY REGISTERED”. Stamped in gold on the inside crown a crown on top, “JESS APPLEGATH”, a lion between two flags logo, and underneath “85. YONGE NEAR KING ST. TORONTO 473. ST. CATHERINE ST. WEST NEAR PEEL ST. MONTREAL, MEN’S HATS ONLY REGISTERED”.

Description
(a) A ladies’ felt hat inside a brown cardboard (b) hatbox. The light green hat is cloche-styled with a cut-out rosette, badge-style, decoration appliqued on, viewer’s right. The rosette has a simulated pearl and plastic flower stitched on the circular part and rhinestones glued on the outside flap above. On the inside crown there is a circular stamp in white, where the outside circle lettering reads “100% WOOL”, a printed star, and then, TERRY SALES CORP N.Y.”, and then another star; the inside circle in script ”Glamour Felts”.(b) A brown cardboard box with greenish-blue flowers and stems and a bee, and the simulated motion of the bee flying away from the flower, on the top of the cover; also on the side of the cover, “995FM B COUNT”. On the inside top printed “995FM B COUNT”, a cross and “A” and “J” printed on opposite corners. There are two slits in the bottom of the box with a piece of grey cotton cord threaded through for carrying the hatbox.(c) A yellowed receipt for the hat “OCT 27 2 4 5 409 k-- 13.34 Date Serial No Reg. (Clerk ( ) Amount” , serated holes to tear off, and underneath “PLEASE KEEP THIS CHECK IT” indecipherable lettering, and then continued “ON AN EXCHANGE OR ADJUSTMENT OCT 27 2 4 5 409 K - - 13.34 BLOOMINGDALES LEXINGTON AT 59TH NEW YORK”.
