- History / Biographical
- William "Bill" Royle (1905-1980) moved to Banff from Lethbridge in 1952 with his mother (Mary Elizabeth) and two young sons (Bernard and Walter), following the death of his wife. William started the business Banff Plumbing and Heating Ltd., which he operated until his death. William and his brother, John J. Royle, were also involved with a laundromat business in Banff. From its inception in 1953, William also worked as director and president of the Banff Park Savings and Credit Union (now Bow Valley Credit Union). In his spare time, William volunteered with the Banff Boy Scouts, as well as St. Mary's Church in Banff, the Seniors' Society and the Alberta Council of the Aging. William's son, Bernard, tragically passed away in a plane crash in 1969 while searching for new heliskiing routes in British Columbia with his friend, John Gow, who survived.

- In this carefully curated collection of essays, editors Jamie Dopp and Angie Abdou go beyond their first collection, Writing the Body in Motion, to engage with the meaning of sport found in Canadian sport literature. How does 'sport' differ from physically risky recreational activities that require strength and skill? Does sport demand that someone win? At what point does a sport become an art? With the aim of prompting reflections on and discussions of the boundaries of sport, contributors explore how literature engages with sport as a metaphor, as a language, and as bodily expression. Instead of a focus on what is often described as Canada's national pastime, contributors examine sports in Canadian literature that are decidedly not hockey. Topics include New Years Eve activities and parties, Pete being officially released from the Air Force [January 5], day to day life, photography and slide-making, weather, Catharine's involvement with the Red Cross, going to the movies, watching hockey games, radio programs [including operas, news, and sports], visits from friends, digging a cellar beneath the kitchen and moving the furnace underneath it, cleaning and household chores, Cam and Lila moving to Vancouver, errand trips to Calgary, wildlife, Banff events, painting, extending the second floor to create a new master bedroom above the living room, events and people in Concord, news pertaining to the war, birthdays, various holidays [both Canadian and American], deaths and funerals [Hermann Gadnew, President Roosevelt], the end of the war in Europe [also includes special radio broadcasts and community celebrations], gardening and yardwork, and short drives [usually to Lake Louise and the Lake Minnewanka area].

Topics include Pete and Catharine's 15th wedding anniversary, day to day life, errand trips to Calgary [usually by bus], wildlife, Ski Club meetings, the Calgary Stampede, Banff events, visits from friends, attending a Sun Dance in Morely in July [held to celebrate the end of the war], painting, photography, weather, events and people in Concord, radio programs [mostly news and hockey games], various holidays [both Canadian and American], World War II officially ending August 15 and its various celebrations, cleaning and household chores [including renovations to the chimney], going to the movies, day trips around Banff National Park [usually to Lake Louise/Moraine Lake, Bow Lake, and the immediate Banff town area] to paint/sketch and take pictures, Major Fred Bagley's funeral in October, strikes in the US and Canada [primarily butchers and coal miners], d'Arcy Baker-Carr being released from a Japanese POW camp and coming back to Canada, Catharine mounting slides, skiing, watching curling games, putting together the annual Christmas card, and various other holiday activities.
