Recessed platform of red lacquer at top, outward bowed legs at each corner attached to square frame at base forming shaped cut-out windows on each side. Floral motif at centre of each side of platform with three long leaves spiralling to form round medallion. Top edges trimmed in gold.

- Description
- Handle only, elaborately formed in the shape of a Chinese dragon, since separated from its incense burner. Depressions under its chest and tail show where it would have been attached to the burner. The patina is quite brown, and the scales of the dragon are clear cusps on most of its surface. The casting was made in six parts and then joined. The menacing dragon has mouth open, horns raised, claws extended. It would have been a difficult handle to use affixed to the burner, and has an enhanced decorative value.
