History / Biographical
John Adie grew up in St. Catharines, Ontario and moved to Calgary, Alberta ca.1911. Adie was a signmaker who had a workspace on 8th Avenue in Calgary and lived at the YMCA. In 1914 Adie and his three younger brothers, along with other members and residents of the Calgary YMCA joined the Canadian Army. John Adie and two of his brothers were killed in action.

Fonds consists of ca. 36 b&w photographs, some captioned. File pertains to John Adie and friends and family enjoying recreational activities in the Banff area including hiking, skating on the Bow River, and the Hot Springs. Subjects also include Jane and John Adie playing tennis in Calgary, John Adie in his sign painting studio, and a room in the YMCA. One print has a hiking route drawn on the print.
