Bini Fuhrmann worked as a lab technician in George Noble's photographic studio in Banff, Alberta, Canada during the summer of 1953. When tourists brought films in for processing, the technicians would make extra copies of snapshots of movie sets and actors for themselves.

The Film "Buffalo Bill and the Indians, or Sitting Bull's History Lesson", was filmed in 1975 and released in 1976. The film was directed by Robert Altman and co-written by Robert Altman and Alan Rudolph. Key stars in the film include Paul Newman (Buffalo Bill), Frank Kaquitts (Sitting Bull), Joel Grey (The Producer), and Kevin McCarthy (The Publicist). Other actors include Harvey Keitel, Allan F. Nicholls, Geraldine Chaplin, John Considine, Fred N. Larsen, Pat McCormick and Burt Lancaster. The movie was filmed on location at the Stoney Nakoda reservation in Morley, Alberta, and many of the film extras were from this community. Stoney Nakoda Chief Frank Kaquitts (Sitting Wind) played the role of Sitting Bull

History / Biographical
Iva (Stewart) Smith , 1894-1975, and Leonard James Smith, 1890-1969, were business operators at Banff, Alberta, Canada. Iva Stewart and her mother Zaidee Stewart, 1875-1962, came to Banff as visitors in 1913 and decided to stay. Iva operated the Canadian Pacific Railway station news stand from 1914 until ca.1924. She married Len Smith in 1922.
After working at various other CPR facilities, including Lake Louise Chalet in the 1920s and Wapta Bungalow Camp, ca.1931, Iva Smith became manager of Becker's Bungalows on Tunnel Mountain in Banff, ca.1935 Len Smith worked at the Bow River boat house and was Captain of the "Lake Minnewanka" for over thirty years. He was also an ice-maker at Edmonton, Calgary, Lethbridge and Banff, Alberta for forty-five years. Zaidee M. Stewart worked at the boat operation tea house and wrote poetry, publishing "Banff Holiday" in 1950.

Iva Smith papers include personal correspondence, 1904-1973, and business papers pertaining to the CPR news stand, 1914-1924. Len Smith professional papers pertain to his work as boat engineer. Zaidee Stewart papers include correspondence, diaries, poetry and papers re the publication "Banff Holiday."
Family photographs pertaining to Iva and Len Smith, family, friends and associates, activities, careers, trips and world travels; Banff people, places and events, especially Banff Winter Carnival and Banff Indian Days; film making, including Pajamas (1926) and Eternal Love (1928); Lake Louise and Lake Minnewanka areas; canoeing; scenic views; and other collected items.

History / Biographical
Patrick Russell Judge, 1928-2003, was a clergyman and development officer at Calgary and Banff, Alberta, Canada. Born and educated at Montreal, Quebec, Judge came to Banff in 1953 to assist Rev. H. Tully Montgomery of St. George's in the Pines Anglican Church and work as a room service waiter at the Banff Springs Hotel. He also worked as an extra on the film "Saskatchewan".
Judge returned west after completing studies at McGill and Sir George Williams universties, serving as an Anglican minister in Calgary for a number of years. Judge subsequently became a director of development at the University of Calgary and, later, Vice-President of Development at the Banff Centre. He conducted annual Christmas and Easter worship services at Sunshine Village ski area near Banff for nearly 20 years.
Between 1984 and 1988, Judge was actively involved with the sport of freestyle skiing, serving in numerous official positions with national and international organizations, competitions and the 1988 Winter Olympic Games at Calgary, Alberta. He was a key figure in getting freestyle skiing as a demonstration event at the 1988 games.
Pat and Fay Judge continued to live at Canmore, Alberta after retirement from the Banff Centre in ca.1992.

Includes correspondence, financial papers, lists, schedules, reports, publications etc. Also includes two screen plays for movie "Saskatchewan", one autographed.
Photographs are primarily publicity continuity stills by staff photographer assigned to movie "Saskatchewan", 1953, 144 items; also small number of other items pertaining to, or collected by, Pat Judge. Four video recordings pertain to freestyle skiing, 1981-1988.

History / Biographical
George W. Pocaterra, 1882-1972, rancher, was a pioneer of the Kananaskis region, 1906. On a visit to his native Italy in 1933, he met Norma Piper, 1898-1983, a coloratura soprano of Calgary, and they married in 1936. The Pocaterras returned to Alberta on the eve of the Second World War.

Comedy thriller "Silver Streak" (1976) was directed by Arthur Hiller and written by Colin Higgins. Parts of the filming took place in locations throughout Alberta, including Okotoks, Calgary, and Drumheller. The film largely takes place aboard a moving train, and the use of Canadian Pacific Railway for this purpose is likely how Nicholas Morant (Canadian Pacific's Special Photographer from 1930 - 1981) was able to take the photographs in this file.
