There is a silver maple leaf (signifying that it stands for Member of the Order of Canada) soldered onto the centre of the snowflake. The maple leaf is surrounded by a red enamel ring bearing the motto of the order “DESIDERANTES MELIOREM PATRIAM” (meaning “They desire a better country”) in silver lettering.
