Description
A carabiner with two pitons hanging from it:a) a D-ring carbiner (10.3x5.0cm wide) made out of aluminum alloy; it has a spring lock mechanism with a safety bar in the gate. On one side it has “CHOUINARD” in raised upright block letters, followed by “H G” horizontally. The opposite side has “H” horizontally, “820” “G” horizontally “P” within a circle “ALCOA” followed by Chouinard’s diamond logo and “775”. This carabiner is light, strong and uncomplicated.(b) a hand-forged horizontal piton (8.8x2.60cm wide 3.0cm high) with a flat blade and raised side ‘handle’, viewer’s left, with a round hole. On the handle there is hand engraved “C” and what could be “m e”. This may have been an early Yvon Chouinard when he was making pitons in a garage. There is also “H G” below that.(c) a hand-forged horizontal piton (8.0x3.2cm wide 3.5 high) with a flat, thin, sharp blade and raised side ‘handle’, viewer’s right, with a round hole. Made of of Chrome-moly steel. There is stamp, Yvon Chouinard’s logo, a diamond with a “C” in the centre and “U.S.A” underneath.
