While not entirely complete in nature, the author dedicates the history to the men who chose the disgruntled forest life, over that of comfort and stability. The author, F.W. Lindsay explains the relationship between pioneers and Americans, arguing that our best pioneers were American men. Readers can expect to learn more about Cariboo, while taking in the patriotic undertones of the publication.

- "Highway No.3 is a ribbon of concrete that winds through some of the most dramatic scenery in Western Canada. At times it courses between valley walls lush with vegetation and history, adn at others it climbs mountain sides to meander gracefully over the top of the world. It was originally called the Dewdney Trail and it ran from Hope, through Rock Creek and on to Wild Horse Camp, 6 miles northeast of Cranbrook. Today, with a few variations of route, it follows the old trail and has become in every sense of the word the New Dewdney Trail. In this, our seventh Frontier Guide, we are attempting to trace the story adn the history of both the old trail and the new , from Hope to Rock Creek. In companion volumes, we hope to complete the trail from Rock Creek to Salmo adn from Salmo to Wild Horse."

- "Behind Lesser Slave Lake, between the Peace and Hay Rivers to the west, the Slave and Athabasca to the east and south, lies Alberta's Unknown Empire, greater in area than England and Wales combined. A few settlements mark its periphery: Forts McMurray, MacKay, Chipewyan, Fitzgerald, names reminiscent of its fur-trading history, [Indigenous] Cabins, Peace River, once known as a Crossing, Grouard, not quite a ghost town, Slave Lake, and some others. For the most part, this is a land of lakes and forests, abounding in fish and game, but (except near Fort Vermilion) almost devoid of people. A dozen settlements are home to a few thousand people, perhaps enough to average out a one person per ten square miles. The names of their communities reveal their natures. Wabasca, Atikameg - a Cree word meaning "whitefish" - Loon, Lubicon, Cadotte, Calling, and Sandy Lakes. Except for the teachers, missionaries, and a few other functionaries, the residents are [Indigenous]: Metis, Cree, Chipewyan."
