Abstract
This exhibition catalogue introduces historic photographs of Indigenous peoples of Western Canada from a collection housed at the University of Alberta's Bruce Peel Special Collections. The publication focuses on the ancestors represented in the collection and how their images continue to generate stories and meanings in the present. The selected photographs contribute to a richer, deeper understanding of the past. There is strength, character, persistence, determination, artwork, humour, dance, celebration, and so much more in the photographs. Some serve as records of cherished landscapes that may have been altered. Others provide links to ancestors: revered leaders, soldiers, healers, thinkers, and orators. The curators hope that the process of identifying the people in these photographs, only begun here, will continue. (Provided by Publisher)

History of Alberta
Calgary
Abstract
Pertains to a collection of photographs and text pertaining to various buildings, homes and shops in Calgary, Alberta. While history can be explored through a multitude of lenses, author Trudy Soby decided to focus on the ways homes, apartments, buildings, and hotels contributed in creating a unique identity in Calgary, Alberta. The publication treasures the past, paying a particular homage to some of the first homes in the Calgary area. As our world continues to be revolutionized, economic motives drive industrial change, resulting in the destruction of many of the first homes in an effort to build new, and more modern housing options. The authors acknowledge such changes, and work to commemorate the homes of some of the first settlers and pioneers in the city before they are gone.

Crowsnest Pass
History of Alberta
Abstract
"In a region shaped by industry and tragedy, the Crowsnest Pass survived and has created on of the most vibrant and beautiful 'watering holes' in the Canadian Rockies. Surviving amazing hardships early on in the Crowsnest Pass was an accomplishment in itself, how did those early residents do it? Well ... to be honest, they had a little help from a few libations now and then. This book wades through how alcohol is interlaced with the history of the area, it is really an expose on the buildings that facilitated the pub culture in the region. Each community has its own unique history and distinct buildings that were meeting places, social houses, and hallowed grounds, spaces that tied the history, alcohol, and people to one another. So ... might I suggest you sit down, grab a drink, and enjoy the fascinating (and historic) pub culture of the Pass. Cheers!"--Back cover.

Abstract
Highlights the individuals and groups who challenged Alberta's conservative status quo in the 1960s and 70s. Drawing on archival records, newspaper articles, police reports, and interviews, the contributors examine Alberta's history through the eyes of Indigenous activists protesting discriminatory legislation and unfulfilled treaty obligations, women and lesbian and gay persons standing up to the heteropatriarchy, student activists seeking to forge a new democracy, and anti-capitalist environmentalists demanding social change. This book uncovers the lasting influence of Alberta's noncomformists--those who recognized the need for dissent in a province defined by wealth and right-wing politics--and poses thought-provoking questions for contemporary activists. -- Provided by publisher
