Carved into the leather below the horn: “CAB 1964” and brand “R” with an inverted arc underneath. There is a leather strap, for gripping, wound around the horn and a metal concho attaches the strap to the saddle. Below the horn, viewer’s right, there is a leather strap threaded through the fork and secured with a screw; buckled onto this is a large metal ring buckle with the woven cinch attached to that. The cinch is a mixture of rope, hair, fibre and pink wool woven and braided into a horizontal line in pink, braided rope and then a pyramid; same on the other half. On either side of the cantel there is a rosette concho of leather with a metal concho over that, and two pieces of dangling leather, same on the back jockey behind the cantel, and in the middle the maker’s stamp again “RAY HOLES” on top and underneath “GRANGEVILLE, IDA”. A leather tab is attached to saddle, viewer’s left, with a leather rosette concho, on top of which is a metal concho; stamped on this is the maker’s mark “QUARTER HORSE TREE”, an oval with a cutout in the middle “RAY HOLES” on top and underneath “GRANGEVILLE, IDA”. The saddle has large fenders and attached to those are the stirrups.
