History / Biographical: "Vanishing Act," called "Hoax" during production, 1986, directed by David Greene and starring Elliott Gould, Mike Farrell, Margo Kidder, and Fred Gwynne. A husband loses his wife during their honeymoon at a U.S. Rocky Mountain resort town. After going to local authorities to initiate a search, the mystery deepens when a strange woman shows up claiming to be his wife. Location filming primarily around the Banff townsite, including the Banff Park Lodge, CIBC, various private residences on Buffalo Street, and Banff Avenue.

Title: Luncheon Plate

Date: 1950

Material: ceramic; paint

Description: A round, white plate with a border design (1.7cm wide) that incorporates a bold, art-deco style (Wheatsheaf pattern) of yellow wheat sheaves, maple leaves, and flowers in browns, greens, and yellow on a blue background. This border chain is broken to incorporate the printed “CANADIAN PACIFIC” in blue. The Minton logo is on the back, printed in black, a crown on top, “MINTONS” printed across a circular, segmented globe, a laurel leaf on either side, between the leaves “EST. 1793”, and below that “ENGLAND”. The words “MINTON CHINA” was impressed into the plate before the glaze was applied, but the word CHINA is barely visibible.

Topics include holiday activities, day to day life, Banff events, visits from friends, bonspiels, watching local hockey games, the Banff Winter Carnival, weather, events and people in Concord, a train crash east of Banff in late February [no one was injured, Syd Vallance was on the train], new household appliances like a washing machine [Bendix] and electric sewing machine, world news, radio programs, photography, painting, Catharine going to Concord in May [she was called back to Banff early due to concerns for Pete's mental health], the death and funeral of Norman Sanson, and Pete and Catharine going to Victoria and Vancouver for the month of June [they stayed at the Empress in Victoria and the Hotel Georgia in Vancouver before moving to an apartment at the Ritz Vancouver].
