- History / Biographical
- Noel Odell (1890 - 1987) was a geologist and mountaineer. Noel was born and educated in England, and became an avid climber in the United Kingdom, joining the Alpine Club in 1916. Noel is known primarily for his involvement in the 1924 Everest expedition, during which two climbers, Andrew Irvine and George Mallory, died during their summit attempt. In 1936, Noel and fellow climber Bill Tilman summited Nanda Devi in India, which at the time was the highest completed summit in the world. Noel served with the Royal Engineers in World War I and II, worked as a petroleum and mining consultant, and taught geology at various universities around the world.

File includes one interview of Noel Odell led by Maryalice, pertaining to the Everest 1924 expedition, World War II and other aspects of Noel's life; and one recording of a 1977 lecture presented by Maryalice at a conference about log structures.
