Description
A set of five small dolls, graduated in size and hollow so that one fits inside the other, each separates in half with the top fitting over a small wooden lip on the base. Loosely sketched facial features on each with brightly painted robes. (a) male figure with tall bald domed head and a fringe of hair at neck and sparse beard, facial contours accented with pink. Wearing green flowered kimono with yellow sash tie at back, small red footed base with black slippers Marks: on base, "PP" (b) 2.3 x 1.5, squatter figure with flat base depicting man with fringe of hair at neck, and fat bare belly, holding yellow fan, facial and belly contours accented with pink, wearing red flowered robe (c) 1.7 x 1.1, as (b) above. Smiling man wearing green robe and holding sack over one shoulder and yellow mallet in hand, pink skull cap on head (d) 1.1 x .7, nearly round with flat base. Small figure with thin mustache wearing yellow and pink robes and green skull cap, holding what might be a sword in his hand (e) .6 x .5, solid, nearly round piece with simple face drawn on top with thick black hair, wearing red robe.
