- Kuwahara Sataro came to Canada in 1907 at Victoria but moved to Vancouver, B.C. shortly after arrival. In 1908, he was hired as an elevator boy at the Hotel Vancouver. Eventually he worked his way up to head bell man. Between 1912-1916, the CPR sent Kuwahara Sataro along with a group of Japanese workers to various CP hotels including the Banff Springs Hotel, Chateau Lake Louise and the Palliser Hotel in Calgary. Since the hotels were only opened during the summer months, Kuwahara Sataro spent most of his time in Vancouver.
