History / Biographical: The Canadian Women's Army Corps was authorized as an organization by the Canadian Government in 1941, and was officially integrated into the Canadian Army in March 1942.

History / Biographical: Gray Campbell, b.1912, was a Royal Canadian Mounted Police constable, rancher, writer and publisher at Banff and Cowley, Alberta and Sidney, British Columbia, Canada. Campbell served with the RCMP in Banff and Cowley districts from 1932 until 1939. He ranched in the Porcupine Hills area, ca.1948-1960, at the same time writing magazine articles on a number of subjects, including RCMP history.

Scope & Content: Fonds consists of manuscripts and research papers, 196-; police papers, 1932-1935; correspondence, 1937-1957; publications, 1933-1942; Hal B. Hammond papers and photographs, 1887-1888, 1938, n.d.; and research and personal photographs, 1887-ca.1937.; Police papers are primarily reports, statements and news articles concerning a RCMP case involving the murder of four police officers and the deaths of three fugitives near Banff in 1935. They discuss the roles of Campbell, Bill Neish, Tom Wallace and George C. "Scotty" Harrison. Also includes Campbell's RCMP training papers and reports of various cases.; Manuscripts are primarily short articles on a variety of subjects, including Harry Stallworthy, RCMP history, Christmas and Lord Strathcona's Horse regiment.; The Hal B. Hammond material includes letters and manuscripts of an ex North West Mounted Police officer, 1884-1889, re RCMP history, Riel Rebellion, Milk River and Fort Carlton; also photographs of N.W.M.P. and Corporal H. History / Biographical: K. B. (Bruce) Mitchell was born in Calgary in 1910 to Alexander and Agnes Mitchell, both Scottish immigrants. While a high school student, Bruce Mitchell worked the summer months on a ranch, west of Calgary, where he learned to stook hay and dance at the Jumping Pound Community Hall. In 1927 he was hired as an office boy with the Dominion Water Power and Reclamation Service in Calgary and then as a junior hydrometric recorder. In 1930 Mitchell worked as a survey engineer doing topographic surveys but lost that job due to the Depression. In 1931 Mitchell was hired as an acting park warden in Banff National Park and from 1933 to 1941 he was clerk and accountant for Banff National Park. In August 1941 Mitchell became Chief Park Warden in Banff National Park and from 1949 to 1954, he was Assistant Superintendent, Banff National Park. Following that, Mitchell was on special duty to Ottawa for six months. In 1955 Mitchell was Superintendent of Riding Mountain National Park, Kootenay National Park, Jasper National Park and finally Supervisor of National Parks Western Regional Office when he retired in 1970.; Bruce married Marjorie Kay in 1934 and while in Banff, they lived at 454 Muskrat Street and then at 427 Marten Street. Bruce was a Scout leader and enjoyed skiing, snowshoeing, bowling and dancing at the Cascade Ballroom in Banff. Bruce and Marjorie were active members of the Kinsmen and Kinnette clubs and Bruce served on the Banff Winter Carnival Committees. Bruce and Marjorie had three children.; Bruce Mitchell died in 2004 and he and Marjorie (d.1961) are buried in the Old Banff Cemetery.

History / Biographical: Ella Maud [Woodworth] Kidney (1894-1977) was born in Banff as the fourth of 11 siblings. Her parents were Benjamin Woodworth and Elizabeth [McIntire] Woodworth. Growing up, Maud worked briefly for the Alberta Hotel and the Bottling Works company in Banff. Maud was married to John A. MacAulay in 1917, and widowed later that year. Her twin sons, John A. [Jack] and Thomas A. [Ted] MacAulay, were born in 1918. Maud married Forest H. "Pop" Kidney (1889-1979) on February 14, 1923, and the new family settled into the Kidney home on Wolf and Muskrat Street. The Kidney residence was originally located in Bankhead, but was moved to Banff and sold following the town's closure in 1922. Maud and Forest operated several local businesses including Banff Grocery, Quaker Coffee Shop, Pop's Bakery and Kidney Kabins. The Kidneys were also active in community affairs throughout their lives. Maud Kidney was a long-time member of the Girls' Sunshine Flower Club in Banff [and the club's president for over a decade spanning across the 1940's], as well as the Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire [I.O.D.E.] and Rebekah Lodge, and she was matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Banff in 1950. Forest Kidney was involved in the Banff Shriners Club, the Kiwanis Club, the Independent Order of Oddfellows and the Canadian Restaurants Association [CRA], among other groups; in the early 1960's, Forest also served as the President of the Calgary branch of the CRA. Jack and Ted MacAulay grew up together in Banff, where they were involved in Banff's Boy Scouts program and local hockey teams. Jack in particular was an avid hockey player, until an accident in 1940 caused damage to his right eye which kept him from competing. From 1943 to 1945, Jack worked for Boeing Aircraft of Canada Ltd., and in 1946 he was appointed as the Chief Inspector of War Assets for Alberta and the Yukon Territories. Jack married Karin Wallensteen in 1946, and the couple had 6 children together: sons Herb and John, and daughters Karen, Shelley, Jodi and Julie-Ann. Jack served as a coach for the Banff Minor Hockey League for 46 years. Jack also took on several other positions within the Bow Valley community, including working as a volunteer with the Banff Figure Skating Club, a co-founder of the Banff Recreation Board, and a member of the Banff Advisory Council, the Banff Hospital Board and the Banff School Board.
