History / Biographical: Stanley "Windy" Carr (1890-1983) immigrated to Canada from England in 1907, and worked at ranches in Calgary before he was hired as a guide by the Brewster brothers in 1910. Stanley was active in the Canadian Army between 1916 and 1918, and returned to Alberta after being injured in France. Shortly after, Stanley and two other veterans started an outfitting business in Banff. Stanley married his wife, Jessie, in 1921. Around 1927, Stanley and Jessie purchased property at Tête Jaune Cache, where they built a home and opened a guest ranch. Stanley was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge in Cochrane and was actively involved in the construction of the Yellowhead Highway near Mount Robson. Carr Road (located by Red Pass Junction and Highway 16) was named in Stanley's honour.

Scope & Content: File pertains to 43 letters written by Catharine Robb Whyte to her mother, Edith Morse Robb from July 2 to November 14, 1950. Topics include trips to Bow Lake [mostly to sketch/paint] during the summer, day to day life, Banff events, visits from friends, the Calgary Stampede, photography, painting, weather, Banff Indian Days, events and people in Concord, radio programs, getting a new recorder [possibly a reel-to-reel], a train strike in August, a trip to visit the Capmbells in Cowley, funerals, day trips to Lake Louise and Moraine Lake, meeting composer Alec Templeton and playing recorded First Nations songs for him, getting the annual Christmas card together, and planning a trip to Hawaii for the winter. Also includes postcards.

Notes: Please note: language pertaining to Indigenous Peoples used throughout is outdated and may be offensive. Letters are mostly typed, some hand-written. Many typed letters have hand-written notes and post scripts added throughout. History / Biographical: This book tells the story of the White/Whyte family of Banff — pioneers Dave and Annie who created a successful mercantile business in Banff, their son Cliff who played a major role in creating the Mount Norquay ski resort and Skoki Lodge, his brother Peter and his wife Catharine who became two of the most famous artists of the Canadian Rockies, Clifford Jackson White and his wife Bev who created modern Sunshine Village Ski Resort, Jon Whyte the poet and historian and Cliffy, Brad and Tristan White who have had distinguished careers in the Warden Service and the tourist industry. This book tells the story of one of the most unique towns in Canada, through its ups and downs, and the colourful characters who have called Banff home.
