Description: Ornate mantle clock made by Seth Thomas Clock Co. The clock has a body of black lacquered wood, with ornately carved gold-coloured feet, four ionic-style columns at the front, sections of red, grey, and black stone, and carved golden lion heads with rods in their mouths on each end. The front wooden panel is carved with a curlicue design around the clock-face. The face has a gold frame, scalloped inner frame, black numbering, and two black hands. There are two holes to wind the clock at the “4” and “8” and a smaller hole near the middle with arrows pointing clockwise and counter clockwise with the letters “F” and “S” respectively. “SETH THOMAS” is printed near the centre of the face and “MANUFACTURED IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” is printed at the bottom of the face. There is a circular door at the back of the clock through which the mechanisms are accessed. The door is embossed with an “ST” inside a diamond inside a circle. The workings have a engraved “MADE IN U.S. AMERICA” and the same logo as the door and “4 1/2” There is a torn label affixed to the back identifying the clock as a genuine Seth Thomas Clock Co. clock but the label cannot be read because of the area of loss (see image)There is a gold key that fits the winding holes. “MADE IN [EN]GLAND” POAR PROGRESS” is engraved on one side of the key and “8” is engraved on the other side.
