- History / Biographical
- Edna Brown (née Olsen) was born 1919 in Alix, Alberta and moved to Banff at the age of 15. Edna met and married Horace Brown b.1913 in Bankhead, Alberta and together they had three children. Edna worked at a variety of Banff and area businesses including Num-Ti-Jah Lodge with Jim and Billie Simpson. While working in Banff and area, Edna met a number of celebrities including Robert Mitchum, Shelley Winters and Henry Fonda. Horace worked at highway construction which meant long periods of time away from his family. While Horace was working for the Banff-Jasper Highway, Edna, in order to have the family together took a job as camp cook for the Banff-Jasper Highway work crew. Following Edna and Horace's final summer with the Banff-Jasper Highway work, Edna worked as head housekeeper at Becker's Bungalows and then at the Bay in Banff where she remained for twenty years. Edna and Horace retired to British Columbia in 1979. Edna returns to Banff annually in June to participate in the Back to Banff reunion.
