History / Biographical: John Oliver Wheeler (b. 1925) is a geologist and scientist for the Geological Survey of Canada. Wheeler worked for the Geological Survey of Canada from 1952 to 1990. In his work for the Geological Survey of Canada Wheeler mapped the Cordillera from northern Washington to eastern Alaska. Wheeler was the General Editor of the Geology of Canada in the 1980s, and was President of the Geological Association of Canada from 1970-1971. In 2002 Wheeler was awarded the Massey Medal by the Royal Canadian Geographical Society. In 2003 he was awarded the Logan Medal by the Geological Association of Canada. Wheeler holds an Honorary Doctorate of Science at the University of British Columbia.

Wheeler pertaining to his geological research which was referenced in the book "Where Terranes Collide" (C.J. Yorath, 1990). M550 / 2 : Notes by John O. Wheeler pertaining to his geological research which was referenced in the book "Plate Tectonics" (Ed. Naomi Oreskes, 2001).
