File pertains to Dorothy's research on Banff and surrounding area, Parks Canada, Department of the Interior, and the history of the Canadian Rocky Mountains in general. Records were filed in an envelope that was titled "Book Notes." Notable people include James Wardle, J.B. Harkin, Pat Brewster, Arthur Unwin, Dr. Brett, Norman Sanson, and Bill Peyto, among others. Notable places and topics include the organization of the Department of the Interior, the Banff-Windemere Highway, Rocky Mountain Park and Park Wardens, Kootenay National Park fires, coal and precious metal mines (e.g. Bankhead, Silver City), trail riding and hiking, research about James Wardle and his accomplishments, Ya-Ha-Tinda, and various parks (e.g. Glacier, Revelstoke, Elk Island, Kootenay, and Yoho). Charles Henry McAulay, 1874-1966, was briquette plant manager at Bankhead, Alberta, 1907-1912, and General Construction Foreman for Rocky Mountains Park / Banff National Park from 1912-1939. Following his retirement in 1939, McAulay was foreman for private companies. McAulay was married to Cecilia Mayola McAulay, 1888-1953.

Fonds consists of McAulay's personal and professional papers and photographs.
Textual records are mainly employment papers of Charles McAulay as General Construction Foreman for Rocky Mountains Park and Banff National Park, 1912- 1939; includes correspondence, memoranda, journals, notes, timebooks and other materials pertaining to public works projects, in particular road building and maintenance. Also includes McAulay's personal journal, 1942-1963, which includes periodic observations on activities of McAulay and family, Banff events and deaths of Banff residents.

History / Biographical
Claude Melville Walker, 1883-1952, was a surveyor and engineer who had a thirty-five year association with Banff National Park. He served with the Surveys Branch engineering service and was supervising engineer of the western parks from 1936 to 1948. He was involved in the survey of the Banff townsite, superintendent of construction, Big Bend Highway, and supervised construction of the Icefields Parkway, and major highways in British Columbia and the North West Territories. In later years he did private engineering and consulting work. Walker was married to Mabel Arnold Walker, 1883-1970
