Description
A straw boater, flat top, grosgrain ribbon (6.0cm high) around the base of the crown. There is a dark brown, soft leather, sweatband sewn onto the inside of the crown rim and at the back, where it is pieced together, a fabric ribbon tied in a bow, and to the left of that, an embossed “MADE IN CANADA” and logo. There is a plastic-covered circle of paper that fits into the crown; it has, stamped in black ink, “MADE IN CANADA” and logo. Above the tied bow there is a red and gold small circular sticker with the number “7” printed on it.

Carved kneeling figure at stern wielding paddle, and seated figure at bow holding a two pronged spear,atlati, which rests in groove carved at bow. Figures carved from same piece of wood as canoe, paddle and harpoon separate. Outside of canoe, hair and features of figures painted black. Harpoon wrapped with black thread at joint of prongs, black stripes painted on paddle.

Sails, 30 x 12.5 cm are white outlined in light blue, masts and ropes are beige, water is royal blue. Horizon is a straight line designated by a 4.5 cm. wide light blue strip to represent background haze, sky is a very light purple with yellow, pink and a darker purple lined to represent clouds. Picture is framed by a 3 cm. dark brown border. Picture is stitched on burlap, stitching is synthetic nylon like material hooked in very narrow straight rows. Marks: on red and white manufacturer's label in right hand corner of wrong side "GRENFELL LABRADOR INDUSTRIES Handmade in CANADIAN LABRADOR".
