Description
Brown and black carved pipe bowl. There are two notes that accompany this object, both with CRW writing. One note on a brown envelope: “Doug Light These belong to Joe Abraham of Big Horn. They are very old - perhaps before real pipes - belonged to his great grandmother - the face in the rock is also unusual - the nose fell off & they tried to glue it on - Joe would like to know the value of it. Catharine Whyte Banff.” Inside this evelope are some other slips of paper: a blue “Glenbow-Alberta Institute Routing Slip” to “JOHN HELLSON CARDSTON, ALTA 252-1946”, and two yellow “Alberta Stoney Indian Hand Crafts” tags with “Joe Abraham very old - pipe - very old - when no pipes at all - Laurier Hunter” and “Joe Abraham June 26 ‘72 very old don’t know history nose fell off tried to glue it.”

Five piece regalia set. Each piece is made of red-orange fabric and is decorated with sequins held on with beads.a) Sleeveless top (57.0 x 51.0 cm) with button closure at one shoulder. Each side of the top has three sequin flowers - two red flowers and one yellow and blue flower at centre. b) Large apron (94.5x 92.0 cm) decorated with sequin diamonds and three sections hanging from the bottom edge. The two small side pieces have pointed lines of sequins, a blue plastic circle hanging form a short length of beaded thread, and commercial fringe at the tip. The larger centre piece hanging from the belt has black and silver decorative cloth edging, hanging blue circles, commercial fringe and yellow feathers attached to sequin circles.c) The small apron has a sequin flower, blue haning circles, commercial fringe along the bottom edge, and long thong ties. d,e) Wrist cuffs (14.0 x 13.0 cm) each with a blue flowers and a yellow sequin edge. There are five hanging pieces from the belt - two short pointed pieces at the outside with two rows of fringe, two long hanging sections in the middle with a red and white sequin flower and orange and white beaded scrollwork, and a shorter piece hanging over the middle sections with a rounded bottom hem and a single red and white sequin flower topped with orange and white scrollwork. b) Vest (47.0 x 42.0 cm) with no fasteners. There are red and white sequin flowers and orange and white beaded scrollwork on the front top and back top underlined with fringe.d,e) Leg cuffs (36.5 x 23.5 cm) with two rows of fringe and rounded bottom hems. One side has a pattern of green and white squares with a blue and black triangle border, the other side has a multicoloured stepped diamond on a blue background with a black edge on three sides and three black squares along the top edge. The bag has a braided hide handle (39.0 x 2.0 cm) with fur attached. The bottom edge of the bag has beaded hanging thong with fur tufts at the end.

Description
A ceremonial pipe tomahawk which can serve either function. The metal wedge-shaped blade is surmounted by a pipe bowl on a shaft of wood that is covered with leather with four vertical rows of brass tacks. There is a fur lined piece of leather, probably used as hand grip, around the centre. Attached to the end of the tomahawk is a beaded band with long fringe at the end. The band has a white beaded background and design of three yellow triangles with red bases and blue corners. Two feathers hang from beaded leather thongs attached to the axehead with a tuft of grey fur.
