Description
Sedimentary rock. Specimen of freshwater limestone. Layering represents annual deposits of calcite in a freshwater lake. This specimen represents about thirty years of deposition. Very likely collected about 10 miles east of Golden, B.C. which was the location of a glacial freshwater lake which occupied the Kicking Horse Valley, 10,000-18,000 years ago. Freshwater limestone is quite rare, most limestone was formed in oceans.
