Topics include New Yea's Eve celebrations, going to the movies, spending time on the beach, painting/sketching [including experimenting with watercolour paints and different kinds of paper], people and events in Concord and in Banff, descriptions of Honolulu and the local people [including dress, food, and boats], weather, watching US Navy ships and planes come in and out of Pearl Harbor, listening to the radio [mostly news and operas], sketching people on the beach, the other guests at their hotel, going out for meals, celebrating Pete's birthday, descriptions of meals, planning their trip to Japan, painting portraits of locals, making canvases and easels, developing films [photographs], the Moores and the Rungiuses arriving in early February, shopping, watching various military Reviews and parades [usually as part of ceremonies for visiting dignitaries], descriptions of various ships in port, flowers and trees, birds, showing some of their work at the Art Academy at the invitation of the Honolulu Art Association in early March, going to cocktail parties and dances with the Moores and Rungiuses, booking their passage to Japan with Canadian Pacific, and leaving Hawaii in mid-March.

Some letters contain small sketches of hotel/motel layouts, road layouts, and room/ship cabin details. Topics include leaving Honolulu for Tokyo via the Canadian Pacific Steamer "Empress of Japan" in late March, life aboard ship, comments and descriptions of the ship and other passengers, weather, books Pete and Catharine are reading, arriving in Tokyo, extensive details of most everything Catharine comes into contact with [this was her first visit to Japan and drew a lot from her grandfather's experiences - it was not Pete's first visit], meeting their guide Mr Miyaoka, going to art shows and museums, local cuisine, architecture, music and entertainment, sightseeing, visiting temples and gardens, shopping, sketching, taking Japanese painting lessons, photography and cameras, going for walks [both during the day and at night], going to the movies [also includes comparisons to Hollywood movies], visiting Nikko for a few days in mid-April before returning to Tokyo [while in Nikko Pete and Catharine watched a local festival, although she does not say what the festival was for], dinner parties, leaving Tokyo for Kyoto in late April, descriptions of the trip and countryside from the train, comments on Japanese naval and military activities, their time spent in Kozu on the way to Kyoto, the trains they travelled in and other travellers, farms, the various towns and villages passed [mostly comments on the train stations], Pete's day trip to Kobe to meet with a friend he'd met in Banff, planning the next leg of their trip, touring around the Kyoto area, visiting local landmarks [including gardens, temples/shrines, and factories/specialty shops], making day trips to nearby landmarks and towns [most notably Nara to see the tame deer and to the Imperial Palace], Pete developing films [photographs] in hotel room bathrooms, events and people in Concord and in Banff, going to Kobe for a few days before returning to Kyoto in early May, leaving Japan for China on the M.S. Choko Maru in mid-May, and arriving in Tientsin China.

- History / Biographical
- "Superman III," 1982, directed by Richard Lester and starring Christopher Reeve, Richard Pryor, Margot Kidder, Annette O'Toole, and Roberta Vaughn. Clark Kent travels to Smallville for his high school reunion and reconnects with childhood sweetheart Lana Lang; meanwhile Lois Lane goes on vacation in the Carribean. Computer programmer Gus Gorman is hired by tycoon Ross Webster to program a machine that will wipe out the entire coffee industry of Columbia, thus giving him the monopoly. This plot is foiled by Superman so Webster orders Gorman to replicate Kryptonite but, unable to identify a missing ingredient, he uses tar, which causes Superman to have a nervous breakdown and splits his identity. Overcoming this, Superman is eventually able to stop Webster's evil machine with Gorman's help and saves the day. Location filming mostly around High River and Calgary. Power plant scenes possibly from Milton Keynes, England. "Superman," 1978, directed by Richard Donner and starring Christopher Reeve, Margot Kidder, Marlon Brando, and Gene Hackman. An origin story for Superman: born on the dying planet Krypton, he is evacuated by his parents and lands on a prairie farm, where he grows up as Clark Kent. After the death of his father, he recieves a psychic call from his deceased biological father and travels to the Arctic to build the Fortress of Solitude, where he trains and eventually becomes the famous caped hero. Meanwhile, Lex Luthor learns of a joint US Army and US Navy missile testing site and steals two missiles with the intent to blow up the San Andreas Fault. Luthor initially succeeds in this plan thanks to the use of Kryptonite on Superman, but as a result Lois Lane is killed, causing Superman to turn back time by flying around the Earth, allowing him to save her and stop the missile. Location filming for mountain scenes done in the Kananaskis Valley and prairie scenes around High River. One of the first motion pictures to film scenes on the newly-constructed highway into the Kananaskis Valley (Kananaskis Country). When a local resident encountered a flatbed truck carrying a U.S. guided missile on the highway (a prop for the movie), he was convinced the U.S. had invaded Canada.
