- Harold Malloch Luxton [1884-1915] was the youngest child of parents Sarah Jane Luxton and William Fisher Luxton. Harold served as a member of the Canadian Infantry (Alberta Regiment, 31st Battalion) during World War I, and was killed in action on December 18, 1915 at the age of 31. Harold is buried at the Kemmel Chateau Military Cemetery in Belgium.

- E. O. (Edward Oliver) Wheeler, 1890-1962, was a Canadian surveyor, soldier and mountaineer. Wheeler was born in Ottawa, the son of A. O. (Arthur Oliver) Wheeler, Dominion Land Surveyor and founder of the Alpine Club of Canada. E. O. Wheeler served in the Royal Engineers in World War I and received the Military Cross in 1916 and the Legion of Honour (France). In 1941 he was appointed Surveyor-General of India and in 1943 was knighted by King George VI. During World War II, he served as Director of the Frontier Circle of the Survey of India. Wheeler retired to Lavington, British Columbia in 1947. Throughout his life, Wheeler was involved in world mountaineering. He worked on the mapping of the 1922 expedition of Mount Everest and was active in the Alpine Club of Canada, serving as its President from 1950 to 1954

Diaries pertain to early life in Ontario and Alberta, service as a surveyor in India, service with the Royal Engineers in France and Mesopotamia, 1915-1918, trips on leave from India to Canada, U.S.A., England, South Africa, Asia, south Pacific, and New Zealand. Diaries also detail ACC camp preparations and activities, travel to and from Banff, clubhouse work; travel details, daily activities and accounts of climbs in France and Scotland; trans-Atlantic and trans-Canada voyage; Alpine Club of Canada Vermilion Camp activities; Strathcona, Vancouver Island reconnaissance trip and climbs; travels to California, Hawaii and Japan: travel from Los Angeles to Canada, through British Columbia to Banff; ACC camp at Glacier, B.C.; trip from India to Canada; life in Banff; trips and ACC camps in the Rockies, Selkirks and Kootenay district; ACC activities and operations; travels in the Okanagan, Kootenays and Columbia Valley, BC. - Gilbert M. Atkin, 1877-1969, came to Banff in 1905 shortly after completion of postgraduate studies in medicine. He first worked with Dr. Brett and continued to practice medicine in Banff, where he raised his family. During the First World War, Atkin served in the Canadian Army Medical Corps.

- Fonds consists of postcards, 1934-1937; military papers, 1916-1918; financial papers, 1922; miscellaneous papers, ca.1910-1955; photographs, ca.1900-1968. Textual records are primarily military medical material. Financial papers pertain to medical equipment. Includes a speech re Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire (I.O.D.E.), n.d., delivered at the Chateau Rundel [sic]; report, Whistler Mountain Ski Lift and Chalet, 1954-1955; and architectural drawing of plan and elevation for 94 Banff Avenue, ca.1910, accompanied by note of "additions and corrections". Photographs pertain to Gilbert Atkin, family, friends and associates, Banff region activities and views, Brett Hospital, curling and Rocky Mountains scenic views.

- Willoughby John Astley, 1859-1948, came to Banff in 1888 and built the Beach House Hotel at Lake Minnewanka. He moved to Lake Louise in 1889. Brother, Charles D'Oyley Astley, 1849-1937, and Lucy Ann Astley continued to operate the hotel until 1907 when they retired to Banff. The hotel was destroyed as part of power development at Lake Minnewanka, ca.1912.

- Fonds consists of notes, correspondence and articles pertaining to the Astley family and early history of Lake Louise and Lake Minnewanka areas. Fonds includes correspondence between Willoughby Astley and J. A. Jaffary of the Provincial Library, Alberta, 1928-1929, re place names in the Lake Louise area; scrapbook of clippings re World War I, including a list of Banff men who enlisted; Beach House Hotel guest register, 1890-1906, recording name and residence of guest, and occasionally record of fish caught; Astley family photographs, ca.1886-1930s. Photographs pertain to fishing and boating on Lake Minnewanka; Beach House Hotel and Lady of the Lake steam launch; Devil's Canyon, Bankhead and Banff; views of avalanche clearing in Roger's Pass by Byron Harmon. Includes one panorama view of group at Lake Minnewanka.
