Chain hangs from both sides and across centre is an enamelled plate with "Member" attached to a circular medal, gold inside with another handskae and silver scroll around edge. On this is "U.M.W. of A. April 1st 1898 eight hours". Red, white and blue ribbon with gold edges and fringes on which is written in gold letters "Local Union No. 29 United Mine Workers pf American Bankhead, Alberta, Canada". Obverse is black.
