- A well-worn, beige, felt, cowboy hat with a grosgrain ribbon hat band around the base of the crown. There is a dark brown, soft leather, sweatband sewn onto the inside of the crown rim and at the back, where it is pieced together, a red fabric ribbon tied in a bow, and to the left of that, a gold embossed “MADE IN CANADA” with logo above. To the right of that written in script “Royal DeLuxe” and printed underneath “STETSON”. Just above the red fabric bow is a piece of wire that was used to hang this hat in Nick Morant’s hat collection. The crown is lined in beige satin and there is a logo with “STETSON” printed under it. Remnants of the plastic cover that used to be over the top of the crown are visible. There is a hand-printed card attached with string and tied onto the leather sweatband “ERLING STROM’S HAT a veteran of the Mt. Assiniboine trails”

- A metal canteen (a) (19.3cmx12cm widex6.5cm depth) with an army-green, felt-lined, canvas jacket (b) and a plastic, screw-on lid. The body is wider at the top and narrows down at the bottom; there is a shaped metal piece fitted in the bottom of the jacket; it is shaped to fit the canteen, which fits in snugly. The canteen is a typical army surplus store canteen. The plastic, screw-on top has a cork liner and a metal chain attached by a small bolt which connects to the neck of the canteen. The insulated canvas jacket has an opening at the top for the lid, two flaps on the top which can be opened or closed by metal keepers. The front of the jacket has the letters “U.S.” stamped in black ink. On the back, 5.0cm from the top, there is a piece of heavy, corded cotton looped over and sewn down, with a metal piece fitted through the open part, presumably for attaching the canteen to a belt or strap.

On top of the circle is a wreathed ibex reaching almost to the top of pin; on the left side of the ibex head is the word and lettering, “DIPLOM” and on the right side “FUHRER” with “SBV” on the bottom. Two climbing axes are crossed, the middle part hidden by the enamel circle; on the left of the enamel circle is the top of one climbing axe, two coils of climbing ropes, a water bottle, the bottom point of the crossed axe and loops of coiled ropes. It’s the same on the right hand side except it’s a large blade axe head instead of the water bottle. On the back there are two metal looped horizontal pins attached with a simple bent-wire locking system. The pins are attached to the oval base underneath a soldered metal circle stamped with “Huguenin & Freres and Co.” and under this “Le Locle”.
